Introduction

Parkinson’s is a neurological condition characterised by motor and non- motor problems. The main changes arise from brain dysfunction through reduced production of chemical messengers particularly dopamine. The three main motor symptoms are slowness of movement, stiffness and tremor. Physiotherapy intervention has been shown to be of benefit for people with Parkinson’s.

Group exercise has been shown to be very beneficial in terms of boosting well-being and lower stress and anxiety.

This group is run by a qualified Physiotherapist. The exercises are based on the latest evidence based research, which informs the therapist of best practice.
Physiotherapy intervention combines using exercise and movement strategy training. The exercises are aimed at working on strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. We also use dual task training and cueing strategies where applicable.
The overall aim of the group is to maintain and improve general fitness and encourage self management.
